Alex Lyon made 29 saves and Patrick Kane scored in the first period as the visiting Detroit Red Wings earned a 1-0 victory over the New York Islanders Tuesday night in Elmont, N.Y.After being outscored 9-3 in a home-and-home with the New York Rangers last week, the Red Wings earned their second straight win thanks to Lyon, who began this season third on the depth chart.Lyon earned his fourth career shutout and third for the Red Wings. He made eight saves in the first and 14 in the second before stopping seven more in the third.Lyon allowed three goals on Oct. 14 in his season debut in a 4-1 loss to the Rangers but has stopped 81 of 83 shots in his past three appearances.Lyon stopped Brock Nelson on a 2-on-1 about three minutes into the contest, made a diving glove save at the right post with about 16 minutes left in the second period. During New York’s second power play late in the second period, Lyon made five saves by denying Anders Lee twice on plays in the crease before stopping Noah Dobson, Nelson and Mike Reilly.His final big save occurred with about 10 minutes left in the third when he denied Simon Holmstrom on an odd-man rush.Lyon was also aided by a defense that clamped down in the final minutes and prevented the Islanders from getting sustained pressure in the offensive zone after goalie Ilya Sorokin was pulled for the extra attacker.
